أكرم الحوراني، يبقى في الذاكرة، بقوة الاستمرار والحب والإعجاب، رجل السياسة السورية بدءاً من مطلع عقد الأربعينات، لذلك فإن دخول عالمه من قبل الباحث أو المؤرخ يواجه بإشكاليات منهجية حمالة أوجه في الاختلاف حول شخصه وسلوكه السياسي، وعلاقاته السياسية، ونشاطه الحزبي وفكره وعقيدته فهو ظاهرة سياسية لها علاقات جمة وأواصر قربى بالبناء الاجتماعي لمحافظة حماة، بوصفه مستوى القربى الجهوية أو المحلية، الذي تكونت فيه شخصية الحوراني في مرحلة الشباب، وقامت بينه وبين سكان المحافظة أواصر قربى متنوعة في مضامينها ومختلفة في مستوياتها واعتاداً على هذه العلاقات أخذ يؤسس حزبه ونشاطه وبرنامجه السياسي، وينظم علاقاته، وتحالفاته مع المجتمع السوري انطلاقاً من أن البناء الاجتماعي الحموي جزءاً لا يتجزأ فيه، وهو يمثل مستوى القربى الثاني، ومع الوطن العربي وهو مستوى القربى الثالث.
ومن خلال هذه المستويات تعامل مع العالم الخارجي. وكانت بدايته النضالية مع الظاهرة الاستعمارية التي اجتاحت آسيا وأفريقيا وفي قلب الوطن العربي، حيث تقاسمته فرنسا وإنكلترا بموجب اتفاقية سايكس بيكو عام 1916 ضمن هذا الإطار يأتي كتاب "أكرم حوراني... كما أعرفه" الذي يسطر جانباً من سيرة حياة أكرم حوراني، ويقول صاحب الكلمات بأن الهدف إنصاف مناضلي البعث نغض النظر عن انقساماتهم وقول كلمة وفاء بحقهم جميعاً، كل في موقعه الحزبي وما قدمه من تضحيات.
