إن جراء الذنوب والعواقب المترتبة عليها تختلف باختلاف مراتب الذنوب. ومن هذه الذنوب أكل المال الحرام والمشبوه الوجه إذ أنه تناول المحرمات يعتبر أعظم رادع يقطع على المرء دربه نحو نيل المواهب الإلهية. وقد حرم الإسلام استغلال أموال تعود لمسلم أو كافر. وهناك العديد من آيات القرآن المجيد والأحاديث المروية عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وعن الأئمة الأطهار تتطرق إلى الحديث عن الاستيلاء ظلماً على أموال الآخرين.
وفي هذا الحديث يستعرض المؤلف ما ينجم عن مآسي عن كسب المال من غير وجوهه الشرعية أو عن غبن الآخرين حقوقهم وأموالهم وهو يستدل على ذلك بذكر روايات أو سرد حكايات تؤيد صحة ما ذهب إليه. وهو يعرض لمفاسد الطعام إن يكون من حرام، والإنفاق من المال الحرام، وعاقبة استرزاق الحرام في يوم القيامة.
