يشكل هذا الكتاب قراءة في شعرية "يزيد بن الطثرية .. حياته وشعره ومذهبه الغزلي" وهو شاعر غزلي مرموق كان له في الغزل باع طويل، عاش في العصر الأموي، ومع ذلك لم يحظَ بعناية الدارسين. من هنا جاءت هذه الدراسة لينقض غبار النسيان من هذا الشاعر الموهوب وإبراز مكانته التي استحقها كشاعر غزلي بين شعراء الغزل بخاصة، وكشاعر عربي له مكانته الأدبية بعامة، وهو ما سعى إليه مؤلف الكتاب.
وعبر صفحات الكتاب استطاع المؤلف الدكتور المؤلف الدكتور عزت محمود فارس أن يصل إلى تحقيق لاسمه وسند لنسبه، وحديث عن مجتمعه الصغير وكيف أثر وتأثر بما يحيط به من مؤثرات، كما استطاع أن يكشف من خصاله وسجاياه، ورصد شعره الغزالي ومن ثم تقسيمه إلى أغراض أخرى مثل ظاهرة الإختلاط في شعره وواقعيته وذاتيه شعره وخصائصه اللغوية، وإلقاء الضوء على كل السمات والملامح الفنية التي اختطها في أعماله، وشكلت رؤيته الشعرية.
من شعرية يزيد بن الطثرية نقرأ:
"إلى الله أشكو لا إلى الناس حبها / ولا بدّ من شكوى حبيب يروع ، ألا تتقين الله فيمن قتلته / فأمسى إليكم خاشعاً يتضرع ، فإن يك جثماني بأرض سواكم / فإن فؤادي عندك الدهر أجمع ، ألا تتقين الله في قتل عاشق / له كبد حرى عليك تقطع ...".
