يضم قانون التجارة مجموعة القواعد والأحكام التي تطبّق بوجه خاص على العلاقات التجارية لجماعة التجار، وعلى مجموعة الأعمال التجارية التي يقوم بها أي كان بوجه عام.
وفي هذا الكتاب يستند الدكتور "عدنان الخير" إلى المنهجية التاريخية الديناميكية في دراسته لأحكام القانون التجاري وموضوعاته الإقتصادية. فبالإضافة إلى دراسة هذه الأحكام وتناولها كنصوص "حرفية" نظر المؤلف إليها كعناصر مرتبطة بمجموع كلي يشدها إليه ويطبعها بسمات الأمة وروح العصر. وعلى هذا، لم تكتف الدراسة بالتنقيب عن القواعد القانونية المطبقة على القضايا التجارية داخل المجال الإقليمي للدولة اللبنانية فقط بل حاولت أن تترصد حركتها في بعض المجالات الإقليمية والدولية وخاصة في سوريا وفرنسا. كما أنها لم تحصر مجال بحثها عن القواعد التجارية المرسومة في نصوص القوانين والمراسيم بل عن تلك المطبقة على أرض الواقع لدى القضاء.
لذا، قدم المؤلف لدراسته بإعطاء صورة عن المبررات التاريخية والإجتماعية والإقتصادية لأنظمة القانون التجاري. وتبيان المصادر المتنوعة لقواعده. ثم قسم الدراسة إلى ثلاثة محاور هي: الأعمال التجارية والتجار (المحور الأول)، المؤسسة التجارية (محور ثاني)، والشركات التجارية (محور ثالث).
