لقد شغل موضوع الذكاء إهتمام علماء النفس منذ عهد بعيد لما له من أهمية في مجالات الحياة المختلفة، وقد حاولوا دراسته بطرق منهجية متعددة بهدف تفسيره وتحديد مكوناته.
ولقد استمر البحث في هذا المجال سنيناً طويلة عرفت سيكولوجيا الذكاء خلالها تطورات نظرية ومنهجية حاسمة تمخّص عنها تأسيس فرع مهمّ في حقل علم النفس يهتمّ بتحليل وتفسير الفروق العقلية بين الأفراد بطريقة علمية، وله أصوله ومنهجه وميادينه المتشعبة التي تشمل الشخصية الإنسانية بكل ما فيها من خصوبة وعمق وإتساع...
وقد سار البحث في هذا الإتجاه إلى حد التنظير الأبستمولوجي العميق، الأمر الذي أتاح للمجتمعات الغربية تأسيس حركة قياس للذكاء مكنتها من توجيه الطفل توجيهاً سليماً.
وكنا نحن العرب - ولا تزال - نعتمد على تلك المقاييس ونستوردها بضاعة جاهزة دون تردد ونطبّقها دون التأكد من مدى ملاءمتها لواقعنا؛ هذا الأمر دفعنا إلى محاولة إختيار قياس ذكاء الأطفال المغاربة، وإذا كنا نستخدم كلمة "مغاربة" فإيماناً منّا بأن ذلك الإختيار صالح لقياس ذكائهم أكثر من غيرهم، ولأنه طُبِّق عليهم تحديداً، إنما لا شيء هناك يمنع باحثين آخرين من تطبيقه على الأطفال العرب عموماً.
