لقد شكلت المرأة وما زالت تشكل مجالاً خصباً للكتابة، كما حظيت وما زالت تحظى بمكانة بارزة داخل الثقافة العربية بمختلف تعبيراتها وتمظهراتها.
وبالرغم من الاهتمام الكبير الذي حظيت به المرأة منذ غابر العصور وحتى يومنا هذا، إلا أنها ستظل حقلاً مفتوحاً للكتابة والإبداع لكونها تحتمل قراءات عدة ليست قراءة واحدة. فهي جسد وقول وفعل، وهي أيضاً ميدان رحب لممارسة سلطة الأعراف والتقاليد والشرائع، هذا عدا عن استخدامها للحصول على اللذة الجنسية ولذة الإحساس بالتفوق. ومن هنا كانت صورة المرأة في أذهاننا نحن العرب صورة متناقضة ومزدوجة: فهي إنسان مرغوب وغير مرغوب فيه، نهابة ونتوق إليه، ندنسه ونقدسه في آن...
الدراسة التي بين أيديكم محاولة أوليى لاقتحام مجال المرأة وتحديد مكونات صورتها من خلال قراءة نصين يحظيان بمكانة خاصة داخل الثقافة العربية، وهما النص الديني والنص الشعبي، اللذان رسما صورة قياسية للمرأة "النموذج"، فحافظت هذه الصورة على ثباتها واستمراريتها منذ ظهور الإسلام وحتى يومنا الحاضر.
وإذا كانت صورة المرأة تحيا بالتعارض والتناقض وتموت بالتماثل والتجانس، فقد حرصت هذه الدراسة على استقصاء صورة المرأة في الكتابات العربية المعاصرة ذات المنحى العلماني أيضاً، وذلك لتبيان مدى اقترابها أو ابتعادها عن الصورة النموذجية، وحتى تتجنب قدر الإمكان إنتاج خطاب متحيز تتمحور إشكالياته حول الصراع الأبدي المزعوم بين الرجل والمرأة، وهو خطاب لطالما أتعب القارئ العربي لكونه يجتر الأفكار ويردد الشعارات ويدافع عن التوجهات ذاتها.
