تحت عنوان "النسبية في الفكر الإسلامي" يقدم الدكتور علي محمد محمود العمري دراسة في فلسفة العِندية السوفسطائية وتجلياتها في الفكر الإسلامي، وهي تقترب في فلسفتها من تعاليم اليونان الذين اتخذوا من التدريس حرفة، فكانوا يرحلون من بلد إلى بلد يلقون المحاضرات ويتخذون لهم طلبةً ويتقاضون على تعليمهم أجراً. وهؤلاء كانوا يعلّمون كيفية كسب الخصوم بكل الوسائل، باللعب بالألفاظ، وبالإستعارات والكنايات الجذابة، بخداع المنطق وتمويه الحقيقة. ومن أجل ذلك سُمّي اللعب بالألفاظ (سفسطة). أما عن مؤسس العندية، بل السوفسطائية عموماً، وأقدمهم عهداً فهو بروتاجوراس الذي ولد في (أبديرا) سنة 480 ق.م. وأخذ يتجول في أنحاء اليونان حتى استقر في أثينا. وقد أفرد أفلاطون محاولة كاملة باسمه: (محاورة بروتاجوراس)، جعل فيها بروتاجوراس نداً لسقراط، وهذا يدل على المكانة الكبيرة التي كان يحظى بها بين أوساط الشعب اليوناني.
وهذا الكتاب محاولة لبيان تجليات المدرسة التي نادت بنسبية الحقيقة، وهي العِندية السوفسطائية، في الفكر الإسلامي، وذلك من خلال إستعراض مؤلفه لأهم من نادى بهذه الفكرة من المسلمين.
يتألف الكتاب من ثلاثة فصول، الفصل الأول يغطي تاريخ العِندية، ومؤسسها، وأهم أفكارها، وأبرز تجلياتها في الفلسفة الغربية المعاصرة، والمتمثلة في الفلسفتين الوجودية والبراجماتية.
وأما الفصل الثاني، فهو محاولة لاستعراض بعض تجليات العِندية في التراث الإسلامي.
ويأتي الفصل الثالث والأخير لإلقاء الضوء على تجليات العِندية في الفكر الإسلامي المعاصر، وخصوصاً عند دعاة الحداثة العربية.
