إن لكل علم من العلوم فلسفة تابعة له ومتفرّعة عنه، ولا يمكننا الوصول إلى هذه ""الفلسفة التابعة"" مالم تدوّن مسائل هذا العلم، وتتمايز عن مسائل العلوم الأخرى، ففلسفة كل علم هي بمنزلة المعقول الثاني لهذا العلم، فبعد تعقّل المسائل العلمية، يأتي في المرحلة الثانية وضع التصورات الكلية للشروع في العلم، وتقسيم مسائله إلى مبادئ ومقاصد، وتحديد المناهج المعتبرة فيه من غير المعتبرة. ولذلك كان لابد لكل علم بشكل عام، وعلم الكلام ذي المباحث الكلية بشكل خاص من طور ثانٍ يأتي بعد تكامل مسائله، يعين الناظر فيه إلى فهم مراميه قبل التعمق في مسائله، بحيث يكون تعمقه بعد هذه الفلسفة على بصيرة.
إن التعرف إلى علم الكلام بشكل منهجيّ يؤدي إلى استيعاب أبعاد جديدة ومتنوعة لمسائله، بل يمكّن المشتغل به من ""المرونة المنهجية"" التي تجعله صالحاً للتأثير في هذا الزمان الذي أصبحت للفلسفة فيه أبعاد جديدة تماماً، وكادت تندثر أبعاد كانت مقوِّمة للنظر الفلسفيّ القديم.
