إن ما سيرد في هذا الكتاب هو رؤية مواطن عربي كان يتابع حدث حرب الخليج وتطوره من خارجه، وسمع ورأى بأم عينه أبعاد الحملة الإعلامية العالمية التي قادتها الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، قبل أزمة وحرب الخليج ضد العراق وفي أثنائها، وذلك منذ أن وضعت الحرب العراقية-الإيرانية أوزارها وقد أدرك كاتب هذه السطور كم كانت هذه الحملة مديرة، بحيث تنال من كل ما هو عربي وقومية عربية وحضارة عربية وشخصية عربية، وكيف عاش الغرب هذه الأزمة والحرب التي أعقبتها بذاكرة القرون الوسطى والحرب الصليبية، بل كيف يدرك الغرب الاختلاف مع الآخر وكيف يدرك الآخر نفسه!
ولا شك في أن معايشة الكاتب هذا الحدث من الخارج قد يهيئ له زاوية للرؤية مختلفة مع من عاشوا الحدث في أنحاء متفرقة من الوطن العربي، إذ يمكن للكاتب أن يتحرر قليلاً من الضغوط النفسية والسياسية التي كانت تخيم بظلها على من عاشوا الحدث من الداخل أو أن تقوده الحملات الإعلامية الغربية والوسائل والأساليب التي استخدمتها لاكتشاف زوايا أخرى من الرؤية الغربية لأزمة الخليج، زوايا واعية أو لا واعية تغلف المعالجة والتحليلان، وإزاء أزمة الخليج بالذات ما أبعد الفارق بين المعلن في التصريحات والبيانات عن القانون الدولي والنظام العالمي الجديد وبين المضمر الذي يطل بين الحين والآخر من خلال الممارسة بعض الجمل والتعليقات القصيرة.
وبالعودة لمضمون هذا الكتاب نجد أنه لم يأت مقتصراً على مجرد مقالات كتبت ف يوقت سابق خلال الأزمة والحرب، وإنما قام الكاتب بإضافة أجزاء أخرى تتعلق بالدوافع الداخلية، الاقتصادية بوجه خاص، في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، التي كانت تدفع في اتجاه القيام بتدخل عسكري في الخليج والجنوب، وكذلك تقديم تقديرات القيادة العراقية ونتائج الحرب والمواجهة ونظرة إلى المستقبل.
