يحمل هذا الكتاب اسم «مناهج التأليف المعجمي عند العرب » الذي أقمته على منهج مغاير، نوعاً ما، للمعهود في التأليف المعجمي؛ إذ ركَّزْتُ فيه على أساليب تأدية المعاني، وتعريف الوحدات المعجمية بما يسند هذا المعنى ويلزمه من عناصر، حرص المعجميون العرب على الأخذ بها في نصهم المعجمي. فاللغة قول يفصح عن معنى، والمعاجم هي مكانز الثروة اللغوية بما تحتويه من المفردات ودلالاتها وعناصر التعريف بها؛ بما يدل على قدرة اللغة على أداء مختلف التصورات، وعليه فإن هذا المصنَّف دراسة وصفية تحليلية غير نقدية لهذه المعاجم بوصفها مدوّنات لغوية.
