إن بحث "أحكام المساجد" لم يشغل إلاّ حيّزاً صغيراً في الدراسات والنصوص الفقهية لدى الفريقين، مع ما له من أهمية ليست بالضئيلة في مجال الفقه الإسلامي، فموضوعه من جملة المواضيع الحرية بالنظر والتنقيب، حيث يتداخل فيه الفقه مع التاريخ وعلم الإجتماع، كما سنلاحظ ذلك من خلال سبر البحث حول هيكلية الكتاب وما يضمّه في ثناياه من مواضيع متنوّعة.
وقد تعرض المؤلف للمسائل الفقهية المتعلّقة بالمساجد من وجهة نظر المذاهب الخمسة وبطريقة إستدلالية "متوسّطة" ومعتمداً عى أُمّهات المصادر المعتبرة عند الفريقين؛ هذا، وقد تمحور البحث في المقام حول تسعة أبواب... ضمّ الأوّل منها بعض البحوث التمهيدية، كمعنى المسجد لغةً وإصطلاحاً، وأثر المسجد في المجتمع الإسلامي، وضرورة الدراسات الفقهية المقارنة في هذا المجال، وغير ذلك.
وتناول الباب الثاني نظام بناء المسجد من حيث هندسة البناء وإستعراض الأمور المتعلّقة ببناء المسجد، واستعرض الباب الثالث مسائل دخول المسجد وآدابه، وتحية المسجد، ومن لا يجوز دخوله المساجد أو مكثه فيها، وضمّ الباب الرابع الصلاة في المسجد من حيث حكم أداء الفرائض والنوافل في المسجد، وحكم الخروج من المسجد بعد الأذان، وتعطيل المسجد عن الصلاة فيه، والصلاة على الميّت فيه، وغير ذلك؛ وتناول الباب الخامس المسائل المتعلّقة بتكريم وتعظيم المساجد، وذكر قضايا طهارة المسجد ونجاسته، وفعل ما ينافي التعظيم.
أمّا الباب السادس فتضمّن حكم ما يفعل في المسجد من غير العبادات، كالبيع والشراء، وإنشاد الشعر، ونشدان الضوالّ، وغيرها من الأمور، واستعرض الباب السابع الإعتكاف في المسجد من حيث فضل الإعتكاف فيه، وتعيين المسجد المعتكف فيه، وما يتعلّق بمبطلات الإعتكاف، وتناول الباب الثامن إدارة المسجد ونظارته ضمن عدّة زوايا للبحث، كالبحث في وقف المسجد وإختيارات واقفه، وشروط الناظر، ووظائفه، وأحكام النظارة، وأخيراً ضمّ الباب التاسع ما يتعلّق ببعض المساجد من الأمور والأحكام، كالبحث فيما يتعلّق بالمسجد الحرام، والمسجد النبوي، والمسجد الأقصى، ومسجد الكوفة، وبعض المساجد الأخرى.
