في محاولة لربط علم الجينات بالشريعة الإسلامية يقدم الباحث عماد الدين المحلاوي دراسة مقارنة حول "الجينات الوراثية وأحكامها في الفقه الإسلامي" بهدف استكشاف الرأي الشرعي المستند إلى القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية المطهرة في أقوال واجتهادات العلماء في مسائل هامة مثل الإستنساخ أو التعديل الوراثي في معالجة الأمراض، أو إثبات النسب ومكافحة الجريمة والبصمة الوراثية ومدى مشروعية استخدامها في النسب والجناية وغيرها من مسائل.
لاجل ذلك قسم الباحث دراسته إلى تمهيد وبابين جاء التمهيد بعنوان "تمهيد الإسلام وعلم الوراثة" ويضم ثلاثة مباحث: 1- الإسلام والإعجاز العلمي، 2- الإسلام والعلوم الطبية، 3- نصوص شرعية دالة على علم الوراثة. يلي ذلك الباب الأول وجاء بعنوان: "مفهوم الجينات ومجالاتها" ويضم فصلان: يبحث الأول في الجينات الوراثية من حيث: التعريف اللغوي والإصطلاحي بالإضافة إلى مشروع "الجينوم البشري". أما الفصل الثاني فيبحث في مجالات تطبيق الجينات الوراثية من حيث العلاج والفحص والنسب وإثبات الهوية وكشف الجريمة وغيرها. أما الباب الثاني فجاء بعنوان "أحكام الجينات الوراثية" ويضم أربعة فصول تتناول بالحديث العلاج الجيني: مشروعيته، حكمه، اختيار جنس الجنين، حكم اثبات النسب والهوية بالتحليل الجيني، حكم فحص الجينات قبل الزواج وبعده وحكم اجهاض الجنين المشوه، وحكم إثبات الجريمة بالتحليل الجيني، وحكم السلاح الجيني (البيولوجي).. وأخيراً خاتمة تضمنت بيان بعض الأحكام الشرعية في المواضيع التي تمت دراستها في هذا الكتاب.
