إذا كانت اللغة وسيلة إنسانية لتوصيل الأفكار، والانفعالات، والرغبات عن طريق نظام من الرموز التي تصدر بطريقة إرادية كما رأى معظم الباحثين التقليديين، فإن الإعلام يهدف إلى: تزويد الناس بالأخبار الصحيحة، والمعلومات السليمة، والحقائق الثابتة التي تساعدهم على تكوين رأي صائب في واقعة من الوقائع، أو مشكلة من المشكلات، بحيث يعبر هذا الرأي تعبيراً موضوعياً عن عقلية الجماهير، واتجاهاتهم، وميولهم. وبذا تتضح العلاقة بين اللغة، والإعلام، التي حاولنا في هذا الكتاب إلقاء المزيد من الضوء في تبيان حقيقتها، ثم اشتراطات هذه العلاقة من حيث سلامة اللغة الإعلامية، التي لا تخرج عن إطار اللغة النثرية في التعبير عن الفكرة، وصياغتها في رموز لتكوين الرسالة الإعلامية، وهذا بخلاف ما ذهب إليه بعض الباحثين الإعلاميين الذين عدّوا (لغة الإعلام) أحد مستويات اللغة في مقابل: الشعر، والفنون عامة (المستوى الفني)، والعلوم (المستوى العلمي).
