لما عهد للمؤلف وهو الأستاذ الدكتور "محمود علي السرطاوي" تدريس مادة الأحوال الشخصية في كليتي الشريعة والحقوق رأى أن يقوم يشرح قانون الأحوال الشخصية المعمول به لتعريف الطالب عليه وعلى الآراء الفقهية التي خذ منها مراعياً عدم الإسهاب في عرض الآراء الفقهية حتى يتسنى للطالب الإطلاع على ما يهمه في حياته الأسرية والعملية وعليه فقد قام بتقسيم مضمون الشرح على ثلاثة أقسام عرض في أولها لمفهوم عقد الزواج وآثاره وفي ثانيها لانحلال عقد الزواج، أما القسم الثالث فأفرده للآثار التي تترتب على التفريق بين الزوجين والولادة.
