إن "المبسوط" لشمس الأئمة السرخسي من أمهات كتب الأحناف المعتمدة، وموسوعة فقهية يعتزّ بها الإسلام عامة وعلماء الأحناف خاصة. ولأهميته هذه عمل الشيخ خليل الميس على إصدار هذا الفهرست الذي عمل فيه على عدة أمور: وضع عناوين مستقلة لمسائل المبسوط، وذكر الضوابط الفقهية حيثما وجدت، وضع فهارس للآيات القرآنية والأحاديث الشريفة حسب ورودها، وضع أسماء الرجال مرتبة على نسق الحروف الهجائية، هدفه من وراء ذلك تيسير الاطلاع وتيسير الانتفاع بتقريب هذا الأثر العلمي الإسلامي الهام من الباحثين والقراء.
