يتناول هذا الكتاب الفلسفة التي أعدها "الشميل" في مواجهة واقعه الاجتماعي، إذا الموضوع للذي يشد اهتمام هذا البحث هو فلسفة الشميل في منطلقاتها النظرية وأبعادها الاجتماعية, ولعل من المنطقي أن يتوزع هذا الموضوع على قسمين متكاملين يتمحور الأول حول النظرية الاجتماعي بعامة، وهي النظرية التي تهتم بدراسة فلسفة المجتمع فى خطوطها الأساسية في ضوء "مذهب النشوء" الذي يؤمن به. ويدور الثاني حول أبعاد هذه النظرية في الواقع الاجتماعي، حيث يتم تبين هذه البعاد في ميادين الثقافة والسياسة والدين والتربية والأدب.
وإذا يتم تناول الموضوع وفق هذا التقسيم فالأسئلة الأساسية التي يتم التصدي لها في البحث هي: ما هي مصادر فلسفة "الشميل" الاجتماعية؟ هل امتلك "الشميل" بحق مقومات النظرية الاجتماعية المتكاملة؟ هل يصلح مذهب في علم الأحياء أعد لموضع محدد لأن يعمم ويوظف في دراسة المجتمع؟ وما حجة الشميل في ذلك؟ ما كان موقفه من الواقع الثقافي السائد؟ كيف فهم السياسة؟ وماذا كان نموذجه في أنظمة الحكم؟ وما كانت نظريته في الشأن الاقتصادي؟ كيف نظر إلى الدين في مصدره وميتافيزيقيا ته، في مؤسسي الأديان ورؤسائها فيما بعد؟ ما هي القيم التي جاء يبشر بها؟ ومن الذي "صدّ الخير الذي قصده عن الناس"؟ ماذا رأى في الشأن التربوي؟ وما كان تصوره فصلاحه؟ ثم ما كان مفهومه للأدب؟ هل كان يأخذ بنظرية الأدب الملتزم؟ ما هو مقياسه لفنية الأدب وجماله؟
