بُنيت نبوة نبيان محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم على معجزة القرآن الكريم الذي هو ذروة البيان على الإطلاق، والذي عجز الإنس والجن على أن يأتوا بسورة من مثله، ولا تفهم حقيقة الإعجاز القرآني حق الفهم إلا بدراسة وتذوق ذروة البيان الشعري العربي ألا وهو (الشعر الجاهلي)، وكل من تعمق في خصائص الشعر الجاهلي - بانت له خصائص البيان القرآني وظهر له إمتناع أن يصدر هذا البيان من بشر.
وهذه عشر قصائد من أجود القصائد العربية على الإطلاق، سميت بالمعلقات والمذهبات والسموط وغير ذلك؛ لمكانتها وإتفاق الشعراء والأدباء على تقدمها وأهميتها.
وقد قمتً بضبطها ضبطاً تاماً بالشكل على أصح رواياتها، مع ذكر الإختلافات بين أشهر رواياتها الأخرى؛ وذلك تيسيراً وإعانة لطالب الأدب والبيان العربي على حفظها ودراستها، ولخلو المكتبة العربية اليوم من نص للمعلقات مضبوطاً ضبطاً تاماً صحيحاً.
