"لم تفهم الصغيرة ما الذي أصبح يدعو قلبها إلى الخفقان، ووجنتيها إلى التضرج وروحها إلى الرقص عند رؤية ابن الجيران، ولم تفهم لماذا أصبحت الأغنيات الحزينة تدفعها إلى البكاء، والمطر أصبح يثير فيها الحنين إلى أشياء مبهمة، وقصص الحب أصبحت تكسي على جسدها أجنحة قابلة للطيران، والحزن اصبح يكتسح روحها حين ينتهي الفيلم بفراق الحبيبين، ولماذا أصبحت دميتها المفضلة مثيرة للملل؟ الصغيرة ذاتها لم تفهم لماذا أجهشت أمها بالبكاء حين باغتتها أولى دلائل أنوثتها!.
إن الاتجاه العريض في القصة القصيرة منذ نشأتها رسم لها قدرها، اعني الاهتمام إلى درجة الانشغال بتفاصيل الحياة اليومية، وإن التنويع في هذه التفاصيل بين أنواع من الشخصيات العامة والأحداث والمواقف وأساليب التعبير هو الذي يميز كاتباً عن آخر. وتضيف "بسمة النسور" إلى هذه العناصر في مجموعتها الجديدة تغلغلاً في الدقائق والدخائل النفسية، ورفعاً لمستوى الصراع الإنساني حيناً، وتعميقاً للمستوى الفكري حيناً آخر.
أما القصص القصيرة جداً في هذه المجموعة فإن معظمها يستوفي ما تتطلبه القصة القصيرة من عناصر كنقطة التحول والغرابة والمفاجأة والمفارقة. غير أن بعضها لا يعدو أن يكون تصويراً لحركة رجل أو امرأة في حيز زمني محدود فالقصر الشديد فيها ليس سببه اكتمال الشكل، وإنما هو نتيجة لاستغناء الكاتبة عن متابعة الحركة إلى نهايتها اكتفاء ببعضها عن الاسترسال فيها.
