"كانت حكايتي ستصبح أسهل بكثير لو أن جدتي لم تكن كاذبة، أو بعبارة أكثر تهذيباً، لو لم تكن ذات مخيلة جامحة لما خطر ببالها أن تقنعني ذات ليلة شتائية بأنها لن تتركني أبداً. لو أنها أخبرتني أنها سوف تموت لما أصبحت ساذجة إلى هذا الحد. لست واثقة من أهمية حكايتي، وإذا كان لدي حكاية أصلاً، فلست في نهاية الأمر سوى امرأة مهزومة تعرضت إلى الكثير من الخذلان. وذلك ليس مهماً الآن. المهم أن تلك المرأة ضللتني تماماً... لعلكم تلاحظون أن حديثي عنها يخلو من الاحترام، هذا لأنها لم تكن جدة بالمعنى التقليدي للكلمة، فهي أقرب إلى الصديقة الغريبة الأطوار التي تتفوه بالكثير من الهراء. ضللتني تلك الحمقاء، أو لطالما اعتقدت أنها سوف تعيش إلى الأبد. تماماً مثل شجرة السرو العملاقة في باحة بيتنا العتيق. حدثتني كثيراً عن جدي الذي زرعها حين كان شاباً، ومات قبلها بكثير. ظلت الشجرة على وقفتها لسنين طويلة حتى قرر عمي قطعها، كي يبني غرفة إضافية من أجل زوجتها الثانية؛ لأن زوجته لا تنجب سوى البنات، وهو لم يرغب في قطع نسله، فأقدم على قطع الشجرات، أخبرت جدتي أن الشجرة نزفت الكثير من الدماء، قبل أن تهوي على الأرض محدثة ضجيجاً هائلاً. قلت لها: لا أستطيع النوم بسبب أنينها الذي لا ينقطع طوال الليل. عندها ضمتني إلى صدرها هامسة بحنو: لا تكوني حمقاء، الشجرات تنزف لكنها لا تئن. أرأيتم؟ كنت أصدق كل شيء، كل ما تقوله من ترهات يتحول على الفور إلى واحدة من حقائق الحياة الثابتة... لذا حين قالت لي مرة أنت أميرة، إياك أن تتصرفي مثل بقية الصغار... عليهم أن يرفعوا أعناقهم عالياً كي يتمكنوا من التطلع نحوك... صدقتها بالطبع، أخذت أتصرف على ذلك الأساس".
تحمل الكاتبة في قصصها "مزيداً من الوحشة" مزيداً من المتعة للقارئ الذي يمضي مع خيالاتها الطفولية التي بقدر ما تحمل من شفافية تحمل عمقاً وفلسفة حياتية يستطيع القارئ استقراءها من خلف السطور. تمضي الكاتبة مقررة ومن خلال أسلوبها السلس الارتقاء بالحكايا البسيطة إلى مستوى يتيح إضفاء المزيد من التقنيات القصصية لتصبح تلك الحكايات الصغيرة متعة للقارئ تقنية وموضوعاً وسرداً.
