إن الغاية الأولى التي تحققها السيرة الذاتية هي الغاية المزدوجة التي يؤديها كل عمل فني صحيح. ونعني به تخفيف العبء عن الكاتب بنقل التجربة إلى الآخرين، ودعوتهم إلى المشاركة فيها، وفي "جسر الجميلات" قصة حياة جديرة بأن تُتعاد وتُقرأ، توضح موقف المرأة / الكاتبة من المجتمع، اختارت لها حنان ورقاوي شكلاً فنياً هو الرواية وأخضعتها لمقتضيات الفن الروائي. شكلت بوجه أو آخر تاريخاً شخصياً أحسنت التعامل معه وقد فعلت ذلك بمهارة واضحة، وظّفت فيها كامل خبراتها الجمالية والأدبية فارتقت سخونة الخطاب إلى سخونة الحكاية؛ وربما هي حكايات لا تزال تروى؛ فجاء نصها فريداً في موضوعه وحكايته وخطابه.
تقول حنان درقاوي عن عملها هذا "جسر الجميلات أسعفتني فيها اللغتان معاً، فهي رواية سير ذاتية تتخذ من المحكي الذاتي متناً لكن من بضع الخيال يدخل هذا المحكي ويحوّله إلى مادة روائية. هي رواية عن بداياتي في فرنسا، وعنف زوجي، وتشردي بين اكثر من مكان، قبل أن أجد شغلاً وسكناً، وأنا أواجه هاته المعضلات استرجع حياتي الماضية وأجد أن جذور العنف موجودة في طفولتي وفي حياتي الأسرية وأن ما أعيشه في ضواحي باريس، ليس إلا تكراراً مملاً لحظات عشتها من قبل وألفتها حد الإدمان.
الرواية عن القدر أو المكتوب كما نسميها عندنا، أو الحتمية إن شئت، هل نختار فعلاً في هاته الحياة؟ ما الذي يدفع امرأة مثقفة أستاذة فلسفة وكاتبة إلى أن تغادر وطنها في مغامرة غير مضمونة العواقب؟ فالشخصية في الرواية تواجه الأمور بشكل واقعي وتتغلب على المشاكل واحدة واحدة. سواء كانت داخلية أم خارجية، تنتصر على حياة التشرد والبطالة وتنتهي الرواية ببوادر حب وانبعاث جديد. "عرفت أن الم الماضي قد انتهى وأن جراحاتي وخساراتي في الحب والحياة لم تكن إلا الطريق إليه وآمنت أنني أحب هذا الطريق الشاق وأفخر به وأنه لو كان لي لاخترت الذي كان فقط لأرى عينيه في نهاية النفق". ويبقى السؤال: حين نروي الذكريات هل نلغيها أم نحفظها؟
