يقول الدكتور إدريس بلمليح في مقدمة كتابه "رحلة القلق والعشق في شعر عبد العزيز محيي الدين خواجة" بأن الذين نظروا إلى التجربة العمودية الحديثة على أنها محض تقليد يصل، في رأيهم، إلى حدّ العمى أحياناً، إنما صوروا في مواقفهم المختلفة عن منظور عروضي ضيّق يرى أن القصيدة ذات الشكل التقليدي قصيدة منظومة، تفرض عليها الأوزان والبحور وشروط القافية من خارج التجربة الإبداعية. في حين أن المسألة في رأيه أعمق من ذلك بكثير، ذلك أنه لا يتصور شاعراً كالجواهري وبنبراهيم، يعمد إلى القاموس فيختار منه قوافيه، أو ينظم الشطر الواحد لينتظر مجي الشطر الثاني بعد ساعة أو يومين. فالشاعر الحق تتكون لديه مقاييس قول الشعر قبل أن يقول الشعر فتصبح لديه القدرة الفائقة على أن لا يكترث بالعروض أو يهتم بالوزن على أساس أنه حاجز يقمع لديه القدرة على الإبداع. وحتى إذا نمق شعره وطرّزه، فإنما يفعل ذلك نفسه من منظور إبداعي صميم. ولا علاقة للعموديين الذين يحق إطلاق عليهم هذا الاسم بهذا المسمى تكلفاً واصطناعاً ومضموناً سطحياً مكروراً لا فائدة فيه.
فالشاعر شاعر مهما كان النمط الذي يصوغ فيه شعره بالإضافة إلى هذه النتيجة هناك نتائج أخرى أساسية انتهى إليها الدكتور إدريس بلمليح في قراءته للقصيدة التقليدية، وهذه النتائج تكاد تصب في مجملها ضمن نتيجة كبرى تتلخص في أن هذه القصيدة تفتقر إلى نظريتها في الدراسات التي يتناولها، وهذه قضية عويصة ومتشابكة العناصر تعرّض إليها الباحث في دراسته هذه وذلك من خلال أعمال الشاعر عبد العزيز محيي الدين خوجة والتي كانت بمثابة محاولة لتجديد النظر في قصيدته العمودية، بدراستها من الداخل لبيان معالم هذه القضية (أي قضية المعارضة والإبداع)، وذلك انطلاقاً من موضوع عام يرى الباحث خصوبته وحيويته بالنسبة لما يروقه من النظر في ثنايا النص العمودي وجزئياته عبر بعض النصوص المتميزة للشاعر عبد العزيز محيي الدين خوجة من المملكة العربية السعودية.
