جبل عامل، كما هو معروف، هو جبل العلماء، وجبل الشعراء، و"العلماء الشعراء"، وهو جبل المقاومة منذ أن غدا ملاذاً لكل ثائر على الفساد والطغيان، فبقيت المدارس فيه عامرة بطلاً بها، وبقي أساتذتها يجتهدون، ويرحلون في سبيل تحصيل العلم وتقديمه إلى حواضر العلم في النجف الأشرف وإيران، إضافة إلى أن كثيرين منهم اضطروا إلى الهجرة في سنوات سميت "سنوات الخوف" من طغاة المماليك والعثمانيين.
وفي فضاء الغربة البارد كان الحنين إلى دفء الوطن يختلج في الصدور، فتنطق به الأقلام شعراً وجدانياً يمثل مشاعر الشوق إلى الأهل والوطن، والرؤى إلى العالم وأشخاصه وأشيائه، مثل هذا الشعر ظاهرة في تاريخ الشعر العربي عموماً، والشعر اللبناني خصوصاً.
اختار د. أحمد نزال، من شعراء هذه الظاهرة المتميزة في تاريخ الشعر العربي، ثلاثة علماء شعراء كبار هم، الشيخ بهاء الدين العاملي، والشيخ حسن بن زين الدين العاملي، والشيخ محمد بن الحسن (الحر العاملي)، فقدم معرفة بهم وبشعرهم، وفي سبيل تحقيق هدفه، اعتمد منهجاً حديثاً هو الأسلوبية البنيوية التي تدرس النص ليس على مستوى العبارة فحسب، وإنما على مستوى البنية الكلية، ومختلف مكوناتها، الإيقاع، المعجم، التركيب، المجاز، الدلالة...
فتبين الخصائص الشعرية والدلالات التي تنطق بها، حقق في بحثه إنجازاً معرفياً أدبياً يسهم في كتابة تاريخ الشعر العربي بعامة واللبناني بخاصة، على أساس نقدي، كما حقق إنجازاً وطنياً، إذ عاد إلى مخطوطات قديمة، وما أكثرها في جبل عامل، ونفض عنها غبار السنين الطوال، وأحياها، إذ قدمها للقراء محققة، وتبين خصائصها بلغة موضوعية تجمع السهولة والمتانة والتعمق في آن، وإن تكن هذه خطوة في طريق إحياء التراث اللبناني العاملي، فعسى أن تتلوها خطوات في الدرب الطويل...
