لقد شغل التعليم إهتمام الناس في المجتمعات كافة، وحتى الذين حرمتهم الظروف من تحصيله، نجدهم مهتمين بإرسال اولادهم إلى المدرسة كي لا يخسر هؤلاء فرصة يتوافر فيها التعليم بشكل أسهل مما كان عليه الأمر أيام آبائهم.
فالتعليم الذي بدأ قديماً على أساس فردي (معلم - متعلّم) تطور خلال العصور ليعرف المدرسة كمؤسسة منظمة ذات إدارة وهيئة تعليمية وتلامذة.
كما أن المهتمين بالحقل التربوي والعاملين فيه قدّموا أفكاراً متعددة ومختلفة حول كل عناصر العملية التربوية، فاغنوا الأدب التربوي بالعديد من النظريات والتحليلات والإقتراحات التي أثّرت بشكل مباشر أو غير مباشر على عمل المدرسة والمعلمين والمتعلّمين بحيث أن عملية التطور ما زالت مستمرة ولو بمستويات مختلفة بين المجتمعات.
وما يتناوله هذا الكتاب يقع ضمن هذا الإطار: تقديم مقاربة لنوعية في التربية - التربية الكليّة - التي سبق وقدّمتها في كتاب: التربية الشمولية والتجربة اللبنانية، 2003م، مع الإبقاء على ما يرتبط بها رؤية فلسفية، وخلفية نفسنمائية، وغايات عامة... وما يعنيه في التعبيرين: "التربية الشمولية"، و"التربية الكليّة"، هو ذاته، لكن لإزالة أي إلتباس في إستعمال التعبير الأول الذي يحمل أكثر من بُعد، فضّلت إعتماد التعبير الثاني "التربية الكليّة" لأنه أكثر دقة كما سأوضح ذلك لاحقاً.
ويمكن إعتبار هذا الكتاب بمثابة نسخة مطوّرة لكتاب التربية الشمولية، لكنه لن يدور حول التجربة اللبنانية، بل يتناولها بإختصار ضمن الخلفية التاريخية لتطبيق هذا النوع من التربية.
أما التركيز فيه فهو على الإطار النظري للتربية الكليّة من حيث مفهومها، ومبررات تبنيها، وفلسفتها، وأبعادها، ومنهاجها، ودورها المستقبلي، خصوصاً في حقل تعلّم اللغة العربية، اللغة الأم.
