ترتكز رواية "جمهورية الموز" على المأثور السردي العربي القديم، جاءت على نسق كان يا مكان في قدم الزمان، التي كان الحكواتي يبدأ بها حكاياته، حاملاً مستمعيه على أجنحة الخيال إلى واقع آخر، وهو يصول ويجول قصّاً كفارس الميدان، ولذلك اختار لنا الروائي نمر منصور فريحه قصة يمهد برويها على لسان (الحكواتي) ويبدو أنه سوف يمارس علينا فتنة السرد، ويغوينا بحكايته، إذ تبدأ أولى مشاهد الرواية بتجمع عدد من الشبان في مقهى الحيّ حول رجل كهل تعود أن يأتي إلى هناك كل ليلة حاملاً في جعبته العديد من القصص والروايات والخرافات الممزوجة بالأشعار، ما يضفي على الحكاية نكهة خاصة لسرده، ويجعل وقع الكلام أجمل على من يسمعه. فبدأ يحدثهم عن عائلة - موضوع الرواية - استوطنت مكاناً نائياً هرباً من الإضطهاد. وما لبثت عائلات أخرى أن لحقت بها، وهكذا دواليك .. إلى أن أصبح هناك بلدة ستنتشر شهرتها في المنطقة وتصبح أحد النماذج النادرة في التاريخ سيطلق عليها إسم "جمهورية الموز" ، تلك هي حكاية "أبو غزال" وعائلته التي هربت من الإضطهاد والغزاة وضمنت إليها عوائل وقبائل أخرى ويداً بيد طوروا حياتهم وضعوا قوانينهم وشرائعهم ... ولكن قوى الشر ما تزال لهم بالمرصاد فلم يبقَ من "بو غزال" إلا الإسم في حين المسؤولين في "جمهورية الموز" السابقين واللاحقين لم يرتقوا بها إلى مستوى "وطن" بل جعلوها مزرعة موز بامتياز ... وأنباء الشعب لم يرتقوا أيضاً إلى مستوى "مواطنين" كما في البلدان الأخرى، بل فضلوا البقاء افراداً يتبعون لزعمائهم حتى تكاثرت "جمهورية الموز" وأصبحت عدة جمهوريات.
