شهرة المخطوطات العربية في حلب يطول الحديث عنها، وعن الخزائن المنتشرة في أروقة الجوامع والمدارس الدينية. ولكن للأسف تناثر قسم من هنا وهناك. وامتدت إليها أيدي العابثين. ولم يبق منها إلا عدداً يقارب الخمسة أو ستة آلاف مخطوط. وقد قامت "دار الكتب الوطنية" بجمع ما تفرق منها ثم سلمتها إلى مكتبة الأوقاف الإسلامية وعناية حلب بدور الكتب جدّ قديمة. ويقول الذهبي في تاريخه كان بجامع حلب خزانة للكتب وكان فيها عشرة آلاف مجلد من وقف سيق الدولة بن حمدان وغيره.
وهذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا وضع خصيصا ليوثق لهذه المخطوطات النادرة وقد اتبع في إعداده منهجاً يسمح للباحث بالتواصل إلى ما يريده من معلومات حول هذه المخطوطات بسهولة ويسر، وهذا المنهج يقوم على ذكر اسم الكتاب واسم مؤلفه وتاريخ وفاته، وذكر أول الكتاب وآخره، ووصف للمخطوطة (نوعها، اسم الناسخ إن وجد، تاريخ النسخ إن وجد المميزات الملحوظة في النسخة، عدد أوراقها، هذا إلى جانب نبذة مختصرة عن الكتاب تتحدث عن مضمونه. كل هذه المعلومات تم جمعها في هذا الفهرس المعنون "بالمنتخب من المخطوطات العربية في حلب".
