ينضوي هذا الكتاب تحت لواء ما أسميته "كتب المراجعات" في العقد الأول من القرن الحادي والعشرين، شأنه شأن كتاب أريفيِّه الآخر الذي نشرته دار الكتاب الجديد المتحدة بترجمتنا (2008م) بعنوان: "البحث عن فردينان دو سوسير". ويتمثل جوهر الكتاب في مراجعة العلاقة التي تنشأ بين الكلام واللاوعي، وهي علاقة أساسية جداً في منظور المحلل النفسي الفرنسي جاك لاكان- وفي صحيح القول بديهية كل البداهة- حتى إنه من المفترض أن تصبح معروفة على أوسع نطاق ممكن. وعندما يعلم المرء أن الأعمدة الأساسية التي قام عليها هذا الصرح اللغوي الفكري الضخم هي أعمال: فرويد، وسوسير، ولاكان، وداموريت وبيشون، وبنفينيست، وستاروبنسكي، وهلمسليف، وأنغلر، وجاكبسون، وهاجيج، وسيرج لوكلير، وجورج مونان وغيرهم من علماء نفس ومحللين نفسيين ولغويين، ويرى مقدار ما تُرجم من أعمال هؤلاء الكتَّاب إلى العربية فإنه يدرك مدى أهمية الكتاب، ويحدوه أمل، هو أمل مترجمه، أن يسهم في تحفيز الدراسات العربية لمراجعة المنجز العلمي العربي في القرن العشرين، استعداداً لانطلاقة ربما يتخذ العلم بعدها وجهاً جديداً لا يرحم المتهاونين. وقد حاول المترجم أن يصوغ الكتاب بلغة علمية واضحة، ووثق ما ظن أن القارئ العربي يحتاجه بين يدي مثل هذه الكتب ليحقق الهدف المنشود من ترجمته ونشره.
