دفعوا بنا إلى قاعة بيضاء كبيرة، فصارت ترفُّ عيناي من شدَّة النور، رأيت طاولة وراءها أربعة أشخاص مدنيين، كانوا يتصفَّحون أوراقاً، وكان السجناء الأُخر في آخر الغرفة، كان علينا أن نعبر الغرفة حتى آخرها لنلتحق بهم... كنتُ مخبولاً وكان رأسي فارغاً، لكن الغرفة مُدفَّأة، وهذا أراحني: فمنذ ثمان وأربعين ساعة ونحن نرتجف.
كان الحرس يقتادون السجناء تباعاً أمام الطاولة، ويسألهم الأشخاص الأربعة عن اسمهم ومهنتهم... أو كانوا يسألون سؤالاً عارضاً: "هل اشتركت في عملية الذخيرة؟" أو "أين كنت صبيحة يوم 9...؟"، كانوا لا يصغون للأجوبة أو لم بيد عليهم ذلك على الأقل: كانوا يسكتون برهنة ثم يأخذون بالكتابة...
قال أحدهم: أنا لم أعمل شيئاً، لا أريد أن أدفع ثمن أخطاء الآخرين... أشكته أحد الحراس واقتاده... وحلَّ دوري...؟.
