لقد ألفت هذا الكتاب بعد أن شعرت بالصعوبات التي يواجهها رجال الأعمال العرب وطلاب الحقوق في الجامعات والمترجمين القانونيين في كافة الدول العربية، وأرجو أن أكون قد وفقت في سد فراغ ملحوظ في المكتبة العربية. إن الملاحظ في تدريس القانون هو النقص الواضح في معرفة اللغة الإنكليزية القانونية وأظن أن السبب في هذا الضعف راجع إلى اتباع النظام المدني في القانون المعتمد على القانون الفرنسي في كافة الدول العربية. فليس هناك دولة عربية تتبع نظام القانون العمومي المتبع في كل من المملكة المتحدة والولايات المتحدة وبقية دول الكومنويلث. ولكن الأهمية الاقتصادية والتجارية التي تشكلها تلك الدول بالنسبة للدول العربية، ولتعلق المعاملات التجارية بالقوانين إضافة إلى التقدم العلمي في تلك الدول جعلت تعلم اللغة الإنكليزية ضرورة من ضروريات الحياة العملية للمستوردين ورجال الصناعة والمال والمحامين العرب. واللغة القانونية ومصطلحاتها في دول القانون العمومي هي لغة خاصة تختلف في معانيها واستعمالاتها عن اللغة اليومية المعتادة أو اللغة الأدبية التي نقرؤها في الشعر والأدب، حيث أنها نشأت وتطورت نتيجة لتطور الأحكام والسوابق القضائية في المحاكم الإنكليزية، ومن العجيب والمحير للعقل أن تصر بعض الدول العربية على أن يكون المترجم القانوني المؤهل من خريجي الأدب الإنكليزي!! لقد سعيت في هذا الكتاب أن أشرح قوانين العقود الإنكليزية السارية باللغتين العربية والإنكليزية مع ملحق بالمصطلحات المستعملة ومعانيها.
