أن هذا الكتاب الذي سميناه (فلسطين: من هنا بدأت الحضارة: من العصر الحجري القديم إلى العصر الحجري النحاسي)، هو كتاب يحاول إستكشاف تاريخ فلسطين القديم في العصور الحجرية، فهذه الفترة جرى العزوف عن الأمعان في إستكشافها، بل ولا تظهر على الإطلاق في العديد من المنشورات.
وما دفعنا لكتابه هذا الكتاب، ما قاله العلامة كيث وايتلام، إن استعرضاً لفهارس مكتبات الجامعات البريطانية الكبرى (COPAC) بحثاً عن الكتب المختصة بشأن تاريخ فلسطين يكشف وجود (278) عنواناً، تنصب أكثريتها على معالجة الفترة الحديثة والنضال الفلسطيني في سبيل إقامة الدولة... عدد قليل فقط يتناول الماضي القديم وقد ألَّف معظم هذه الأخيرة باحثون غربيون مهتمون بفلسطين في أواخر القرن التاسع عشر وأوائل القرن العشرين من منظور كتابي.
غير أن بحثاً مماثلاً عن كتب بشأن تاريخ (إسرائيل) يتمخض عن (598) عنواناً، أي أكثر من الضعف، والعديد من هذه الكتب ينصب، بطبيعة الحال، على الفترة الحديثة المفضية إلى عام (1948) وما بعده.
ومع ذلك فإن عدداً لا يستهان به تناول تاريخ بني إسرائيل (ancient israel, israelites)، وقد كتبها مختصون كتابيون وعلماء آثار، وثمَّ فإن ما هو متاح لأي مهتم بــ (تاريخ فلسطين) أقل كثيراً مما هو متاح لمن يريد معرفة تاريخ (إسرائيل).
