من غير شك أن هناك لغات متحضرة ولغات متخلفة وهذا مما لا شك فيه متأت من أن الشعوب يختلف بعضها عن بعض في المستوى الحضاري، ذلك أن بين هذه طائفة ذات أصول عريقة في الحضارة، في حين أن طائفة أخرى قد أخذت بشيء من أسباب التقدم في مطلع عصرنا هذا. وقد أشرت إلى أن التقدم الحضاري لا بد أن تظهر طبيعته في اللغة، فاللغة الحضارية هي تلك التي سلخت من عمرها أحقاباً طويلة فكانت مرآة لأدب قويم عال وفكر ثاقب متفاعل. وهذا يعني في المنطق اللغوي أن تشتمل على ألفاظ كثيرة شاملة لمدلولات كثيرة تعبر عن حاجات مختلفة عرضت للناس في مختلف العصور. وليس أدل على المستوى الحضاري للعربية من وفرة الألفاظ الخاصة التي تجاوزت الحاجات اليومية ذلك أن جمهرة من المصطلح العلمي قد توفر في العربية قبل أكثر من ألف سنة. إننا نستطيع أن نجرد معجماً لمعارف جمة لا تشمل إلا على ألفاظ العلوم المختلفة وهذا خير دليل أن في هذه اللغة طاقة للتعبير عن الحضارة في أدبها وفنها وعلومها الدقيقة. سأتناول في هذه الدراسة قدراً من الفصول التي تكشف عن قدم العربية وأصالتها وطاقاتها المبدعة للإعراب عن الألوان الحضارية.
