شخصية إبراهيم؛ تعد واحدة من أهم الشخصيات في التاريخ الديني، فقد بلغ إبراهيم في الكتب المقدسة مكانة خاصة، فالتوراة تعتبره الجد الأعلى من الناحية الدينية للشعب اليهودي، وأنهم تحدروا من صلبه خلفاً عن سلف، وأن الرب منحه أرضاً خاصة للشعب اليهودي، ومن الثقافات التي ارتبطت بشكل أو بآخر بإبراهيم، هي الصابئية، حيث يعتقد الصابئة بوجود برهم الملاك، بالرغم من ذكر إبراهيم في المصادر الدينية، فإنه لم يعثر حتى الآن على أى دليل آثارى، سواء كان كتابه أو نقشاً، أو حتى نقش يقبل التفسير، أو في نصوص تقبل ـ حتى ـ التأويل، يمكن أن يشير إلى النبي إبراهيم وقصته، سواء في آثار وادى النيل، أو آثار وادى الرافدين، على كثرة ما اكتشف فيها من تفاصيل ووثائق، في الحقيقة؛ منذ العقود الأولى للقرن العشرين، ومع الاكتشافات الأثرية العظيمة في بلاد ما بين النهرين [العراق]، وتكثف النشاط الآثاري في فلسطين، اقتنع العديد من المُؤرِّخين وعُلماء الآثار التِّوراتِّيْين بأنَّ تلك الاكتشافات الجديدة يُمكن أنْ تجعل من المُحتمل ــ إنْ لم تُثبت بالكامل ــ أنَّ الآباء كانوا شخصيَّات تاريخيَّة حقيقيَّة
