يأتي هذا الكتاب كثاني جزء من ثلاثة أجزاء، من المقدر لها أن تقدم الرواية الفلسطينية التي لم تكتمل فصولها بعد، عن مجريات عملية السلام المتعثرة على المسار الفلسطيني – الإسرائيلي. وهو بمثابة شهادة شخصية مشفوعة بالوثائق والحقائق لمسؤول فلسطيني شارك في معظم، إن لم يكن في كل وقائع هذه الحقبة المتعلقة بالفترة بين أواخر سنة 1995 وأوائل سنة 2001. وتحكي وقائع هذه الفترة الزمنية الصاخبة بالأحداث والتطورات جوانب متفرقة من تجربة شخصية لرجل تولى مسؤولية تفاوضية جسيمة، الأمر الذي يعطي هذه الشهادة قيمة إضافية مستمدة من كون الراوي مسؤولاً وشاهداً ومفاوضاً، وقف على التفصيلات الدقيقة بنفسه، وحاور خمسة رؤساء حكومات إسرائيلية تعاقبوا على سدة الحكم خلال أقل من خمس سنوات من سنين هذه الفترة التي تغطيها صفحات هذا الكتاب. وهكذا فإن هذا الإصدار يجيب عن بعض الأسئلة المطروحة، ويتصدى للمزاعم الإسرائيلية الرائجة بقوة عن مجريات مفاوضات كامب ديفيد، ويقدم الرواية الفلسطينية المناظرة لحقيقة ما وقع من أحداث، تكفّل الجانب الآخر وحده بروايتها، ويفند تلك الادعاءات القائلة إن الفلسطينيين ردوا اليد الإسرائيلية الممدودة، ورفضوا سخاء إيهود باراك، وفشلوا في اغتنام فرصة سلام لاحت في أفق كامب ديفيد.
