هذا هو الجزء الثالث من الرواية الفلسطينية الطويلة لوقائع عملية السـلام المتعـثرة على مسار المفاوضات الفلسطيني- الإسرائيلي، وهو يغطي فترة من ستة أعوام ممتدة بين سنتي 2000 و2006، حافلة بالأحداث والتطورات التي لا تزال تداعياتها ترخي بظلالها الكئيبة على مجمل الأوضاع الفلسطينية إلى اليوم. تروي وقائع هذه الفترة التي تعطلت خلالها المفاوضات سلسلة من الاتصالات والمساعي والجهود الدبلوماسية، التي بدأت برؤية الرئيس جورج بوش لحل الدولتين، ومن ثم طرح مبادرة السلام العربية وخطة خريطة الطريق، وما تلا ذلك وتخلله من محطات مهمة مثل تقرير لجنة ميتشل وانفجار الانتفاضة الثانية، وتداعيات 11 أيلول/سبتمبر على الحالة الفلسطينية. وقد تخللت هذه المرحلة العاصفة من الحياة السياسية الفلسطينية وقائع أخرى لا تقل أهمية، مثل تعديل النظام السياسي الفلسطيني باستحداث منصب رئيس الحكومة الذي تولى مسؤوليته محمود عباس (أبو مازن) وانتقلت بعده إلى أحمد قريع (أبو علاء) إلى حين رحيل الرئيس ياسر عرفات في أوضاع غامضة، ناهيك عن خطة الانسحاب الإسرائيلي أحادي الجانب من قطاع غزة، إلى جانب تلك السلسلة من التطورات الداخلية التي انتهت عند إجراء الانتخابات التشريعية الثانية أوائل سنة 2006، لتفتح صفحة أخرى طويلة.
