أحسُّ أنه يعومُ في بِحرٍ عميقٍ من الرّهبة لا ضفافَ له ولا قرار، بحرٌ بحجم هذه الأرض المنفلتة في الفضاء الغريب الواسع.
طنينٌ هلاميٌّ بدأَ في أذنيه كوشوشةِ السّنابل، كأزيزِ النَّحل، استَعَرَ وعلا شيئاً فشيئاً حتى استحالَ إلى صوتِ انكسارِ صخرِ صلب، تلاه صراخٌ حادٌّ جعله يغُذُّ السيرَ، رأى نفسَه يركضُ في حقلٍ كبيرٍ، توسَّدتْهُ رمالٌ متحرّكة، تعلو هنا وتنخفضُ هناك مُحْدِثةَ صوتاً كهدير القطارات حين تكاد ترسو في محطات بعيدة، حاصرتُه الرّمالُ من كلِّ جهة فطَفِقَ يبحث عن منفذ، لم يكن أمامه إلا أن ينكمشَ على نفسه ويوسِّعَ خطواته، يقفز قفزاتٍ سريعةً متوالية، يعدو لاهثاً... بعد أقل من شهرٍ لن يغدو صباحاً إلى وظيفته فقد تبلًّغَ قرار التَّقاعدِ في هذا اليوم.
