يتناول الموضوع الرئيسي لهذا الكتاب بعض قضايا ومعضلات جغرافية مرتبطة بالعهد القديم، علماً بأن هذا الفرع من الأبحاث التوراتية يندرج علمياً ضمن إطار ما اتفق على تسميته بـ"جغرافية التوراة" ويعتبر الأخير فرعاً من "علم نقد التوراة" الذي نشأ في القرن الماضي في أوروبا، والذي يتناول بدوره الكتاب المقدس لليهودية والمسيحية بالبحث والتحليل في كافة النواحي، ومنها على سبيل المثال: المحيط الجغرافي، التاريخ، النقد النصي واللغوي والديني المقارن.
ومضمون هذا الكتاب يندرج في إطار التهذيب العلمي لجغرافية التوراة ويرتكز في المقام الأول على موضوعه الأستاذ الصليبي. والمؤلف لا يناقش فيه صحة أو خطأ تاريخية بعض الروايات الواردة في العهد القديم وإنما كل ما يعالجه هو المكان الذي يقول الكتاب المقدس لليهودية أن أحداثه قد وضعت ضمنه، وذلك من منطلق فرضية صحة التاريخ بعموميته وخطأ الجغرافيا.
