يتناول هذا الكتاب دراسة جغرافية السياحة من حيث مضمونها ومنهجها، وذلك من خلال تحليل العلاقة بين السياحة والجغرافيا، كما يعرض تاريخ السياحة وانماطها على مر العصور ولا سيما في العصر الحديث، وكان من الطبيعى أن يدرس الموارد السياحية من خلال تحليل عوامل الجذب السياحي سواء أكانت طبيعية أم بشرية، وان يدرس الطلب على السياحة من حيث أنواعه وقياسه وتحليل العوامل المؤثرة في هذا الطلب.
وقد اختص أحد فصول الكتاب بدراسة المنتجعات على اختلافها بعد تصنيفها إلى منتجعات العيون المعدنية والمنتجعات الشاطئية والجبلية والريفية، ولما كان المردود الاقتصادى هو الهدف النهائي من السياحة كنشاط اقتصادي، فقد اختص فصل آخر بتحليل الآثار الاقتصادية للسياحة، سواء أكانت آثاراً مباشرة مثل آثارها على ميزان المدفوعات وعلى الناتج القومى الإجمالى وعلى العمالة وعلى المستوى العام للأسعار، أم أثاراً غير مباشرة مثل تنمية الأنشطة الاقتصادية الأخرى وتنمية البنية الأساسية وزيادة فرص الاستثمار، أجنبياً ووطنياً.
وغنى عن البيان أن البيئة قد أصبحت الضحية الأولى للنشاط الاقتصادى بعامة، ومن ثم أصبح الحفاظ على البيئة والحد من تلوثها هدفاً غالياً، دولياً وقومياً، وعليه فقد حظى هذا الموضوع بالاهتمام في خطة الكتاب، إذ يتناول أحد فصوله تحليل أثر السياحة على البيئة الطبيعية، فضلاً عن أثرها على البيئة البشرية.
وقد توجت فصول الكتاب بموضوعين على جانب كبير من الأهمية، عالج أولهما حركة السياحة الدولية على مستوى العالم، أما الموضوع الثاني، الذى خصص له الفصل الأخير من الكتاب فيتناول بالعرض والتحليل حركة السياحة الدولية إلى مصر، من حيث مصادرها وموسميتها ومستقبلها.
وإنا إذ نقدم- بكل اعتزاز- هذا الكتاب إلى قواه العربية بعامة والمشتغلين بالسياحة ودارسيها بخاصة، نرجو أن ينتقموا به وأن يسد الفراغ الذى تشكو منه المكتبة العربية.
