مع أن القرآن الكريم بنفسه معجزة نبينا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم الخالدة في كل عصر، فإن من معجزاته المتجددة أيضاً ما أخبر به صلى الله عليه وسلم عن مستقبل البشرية ومسيرة الإسلام فيها، إلى أن يجيء عصر الإسلام الموعود، فيظهره الله على الدين كله. وعصر ظهور الإسلام الذي هو موضوع هذا الكتاب، هو نفسه عصر ظهور الإمام المهدي الموعود عليه السلام، لا فرق بينها في أحاديث البشارة النبوية التي تبلغ مئات الأحاديث، والتي رواها الصحابة والتابعون، وأصحاب الصحاح والمجاميع، على اختلاف مذاهبهم، بل هي تبلغ مئات الأحاديث إذا أضيف إليها أحاديث الأئمة من أهل البيت عليهم السلام، لأن ما يحدثون به عن جدهم خاتم النبيين صلى الله عليه وسلم، والصورة التي ترسمها هذه الأحاديث لوضع العالم في عصر الظهور وخاصة لوضع منطقة الظهور، التي تشمل اليمن والحجاز وإيران والعراق وبلاد الشام وفلسطين ومصر والمغرب، صورة شاملة، فيها الكثير من الأحداث الكبرى، والعديد من التفاصيل، وأسماء الأمكنة، والأشخاص. وقد سعى المؤلف إلى استخلاص هذه الصورة من النصوص بأكثر ما يمكن من الوضوح والتسلسل والدقة، لتكون في متناول الدارس والباحث والقارئ بصورة عامة ولتكون بمثابة وسيلة لتقديم صورة شاملة عن عصر الإمام المهدي عليه السلام وكذلك لعرض الصورة العامة التقريبية عن عصر الظهور وحركته.
