كما هو شأنه في كتبه السابقة جمع أبو جعفر الكعبي في هذه الكتاب كل لون من ألوان البلاغة والحكمة المنسوبة إلى الإمام موسى الكاظم وقد جمع من الخطب والرسائل والكلمات ما كان متفرقاً في الكتب فعمد إلى تبويبه وترتيبه في أبواب. وقد قدم ببعض من كلام الإمام موسى الكاظم في التوحيد والإمامية والعقل والعلم والقرآن، ثم جعل بقية المواضيع في كتب منها كتاب البشارة بالمهدي عليه السلام وعلامات ظهوره واحتجاجاته عليه السلام.
ويليه باب احتجاجه عليه السلام مع أبي حنيفة وكتاب الإيمان والكفر وباب كظم الغيظ وباب الرضا بالقضاء وجهاد النفس والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر، وكتاب باب الجهاد. ثم افرد قسماً خاصاً برسائل الإمام موسى الكاظم عليه السلام وفيه باب جوامع التوحيد والدعاء وباب الإحراز وباب أدعية الأسبوع، وخصص أخيراً قسماً من الكتاب لحكم ومواعظ الإمام موسى بن جعفر عليهما السلام.
