كتاب نهج البلاغة- إذن- قد شرحه ميثم البحراني ثلاثة شروح: كبير ومتوسط وصغير. أي أن هذا الشرح قد راعى فيه المؤلف طبقات الناس الفكرية والعلمية، فوضع الشرح الكبير لخاصة الناس، والمتوسط لأوساط الناس، والصغير لعامتهم، فأرضى بذلك كل الأذواق والميول والرغبات، ولذلك يقول صاحب كتاب مجمع البحرين عن الشيخ ميثم وكتابه: إن ميثم البحراني شيخ صدق ثقة، له تصانيف منها: شرح منهج البلاغة لم يعمل مثله.
وميثم البحراني أديب متكلم من فقهاء الامامية من أهل البحرين، وقد رأى المؤلف أن يضع مقدمة ضافية عن كتابه شرح نهج البلاغة، ورتب هذه المقدمة علي ثلاث قواعد:
القاعدة الأولي: في مباحث الألفاظ وهي مرتبة علي قسمين:
القسم الأول: في دلالة الألفاظ، وأقسامها، وأحكامها.
والقسم الثاني: في الكيفيات التي تلحق الألفاظ بالنسبة إلي معانيها فتوجب لها الحسن والمزية، وتعدها أتم الاعداد لأداء المعاني، وتهيئ الذهن للقبول.
والقاعدة الثانية: في الخطابة؛ في حقيقتها وفائدتها، وموضوعاتها ومبادئها والأمور المحسنة لها.
أما القاعدة الثالثة: فقد بين فيها أن علياً كرم الله وجهه كان مستجمعاً للفضائل الإنسانية، والنفسية، والعملية، وفي صدور الكرامات عنه، والأفعال الخارقة للعادة.
وكتابه هذه المقدمة بقواعدها الثلاث رآها المؤلف ضرورية قبل أن يطلع القارئ علي شرحه، فهي بمثابة المنار الذي يهديه ليفهم الأصول البلاغية التي امتلأ بها شرحه لنهج البلاغة؛ لأن قراءة هذا الشرح دون أن تكون للقارئ خلفية بلاغية تجعله يتيه في خضم من قواعد البلاغة وشروحها.
