لم يكن المنهج السيميائي أول منهج يتبناه النقد العربي الحديث، ولم يكن الأخير، إذ اعتمد نقادنا أغلب المناهج النقدية الغربية في دراسة الإبداع العربي ولا سيما السردي منه، قديمه وحديثه، إلا أن ما يميز هذا المنهج أنه سجل حضوراً مبكراً في النقد العربي - ولا سيما الأكاديمي - بُعيد ظهوره في فرنسا في النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين وما أن حلَّت سبعينيات هذا القرن حتى لاحت بوادر ظهوره خجلى ترجمة وتطبيقاً، إلا أن التحول الكبير ظهر في ثمانينياته، إذا سجل هذا التوجه النقدي حضوراً غير مسبوق، موازنة بالمناهج الغربية الأخرى من حيث سلاسة الإستقبال وفاعلية الإشتغال.
ومن تجوالنا الفكري في أروقة النقد السيميائي العربي الذي تناول السرد العربي القديم، بدت لنا ثمة رؤى سيميائية أثبتت حضورها الفاعل في التناول النقدي العربي من حيث الآليات والإجراء في دراسة النص السردي العربي التراثي، فكانت هذه الرؤى قريبة الحضور إلى ذائقة الناقد العربي اعتمدها وتبنّاها، ولذا آثرنا أن نقصر الكلام في هذه الدراسة الموسومة بـ (تجليات المنهج السيميائي في مقاربة السرد العربي القديم) على تلك الرؤى فقط دون غيرها؛ ليكون البحث منتجاً، وأكثر فائدة للقارئ، ولنكشف عن أُسس التنظير السيميائي التي اعتمدها النقاد العرب في مقارباتهم السيميائية، وإستيضاح مدى إقترابهم وإفتراقهم من تلك المحددات والأُسس، ودقة فهمهم لهذه المناهج وتطبيقاتها، ومن هذه الرؤى جهود كل من ساندرس بورس وفلاديمير بروب، وجوليان كريماس؛ لكونها الأكثر حضوراً في المقاربات السيميائية العربية.
