يرصد هذا الكتاب تأثير التغيرات المناخية عتلى المنطقة العربية، ومعظم المشكلات البيئية الأخرى التي أصبحت عالمية التأثير حيث أنها تعدت حدود الدول لتشكل خطورة على العالم أجمع، ومنها الإزدياد المطرد في درجات حرارة الهواء السطحي على الكرة الأرضية ومدى تأثيره على ارتفاع مستوى سطح البحر وعلى الموارد المائية والإنتاج المحصول . هذا بالإضافة إلى ظاهرة الإحتباس الحراري، وكيفية العمل على تخفيض انبعاثات غازات الإحتباس الحراري والمتمثلة في (ثاني أكسيد الكربون، غاز الميثان، غازات ثاني أكسيد النيتروز، والهيدروفلورو كربونات، والبيروفلورو كاربونات، وسادس فلوريد الكبريت، وكل التغيرات التي تنتج عن الأنشطة البشرية لعمليات التنمية الصناعية والتوسع في المزروعات وإزالة الغابات والتغيرات في استخدام الأراضي.
تتوزع مادة الكتاب على ستة فصول تبدأ بالحديث عن البيئات الرئيسية في الوطن العربي (اليابسة، البيئة المائية، البيئة البحرية والمصبات المائية ... وغيرها) مروراً بتعريف ظاهرة الإحتباس الحراري، وأسباب التغير المناخي، وكيفية مواجهتها، وعرضاً لأهمية الطاقة الشمسية، وأهم نتائج تغير عوامل تغير المناخ (الجفاف والعواصف الرملية) والجهود لتخفيفها، وتأثير التغير المناخي على القطاع الزراعي والقطاعات الأخرى، وأخيراً النتائج التي وصلت إليها الأبحاث العلمية وإجراءات التخفيف والتكيف مع البيئة الحديدة.
