عندما بدأت في تجميع المادة العلمية للإجابة على سؤال لماذا الإندماج؟ وكيف؟ ومتى؟ وما هى مشاكله؟ وجدت أن خيوط الإجابة لتشمل التطورات العالمية التي أثرت على أعمال البنوك مثل إتفاقية تحرير تجارة الخدمات المالية الموقعة في ديسمبر 1997 واتفاقية بازل وتعديلاتها بخصوص كفاية رأس المال والتي تطبق عام 1998، بالإضافة إلى الجدل القائم بشأن الشركات القابضة البنكية ومدى إمكان دخولها في أنشطة غير مصرفية والمصارف الشاملة وظهور العملة الأوربية الجديدة اليورو.
وغيرها من الموضوعات التي نظراً لأهميتها تستدعى القيام بكتابة متأنية لتكون على المستوى المطلوب ولذلك عملت على أن أحقق هذا الهدف وقمت بتقسيم هذه الموضوعات إلى خمسة أجزاء، يشمل كل جزء منها موضوع قائم بذاته إلى حد كبير.
