كتاب جديد للدكتور حسان حلاق، اعتمد اعتماداً كلياً على وثائق ومستندات وقفية للمسلمين والمسيحيين تنشر للمرة الأولى، هي من أرشيف سجلات المحكمة الشرعية في بيروت العائدة للعهد العثماني. وقد استطاعت هذه الدراسة تبيان أهمية الأملاك الوقفية سواء الأملاك اللبنانية أو الأملاك الأدنبية وأثرها في الأوضاع الخاصة والعامة للبنانيين، كما أن هذه الدراسة أظهرت أهمية الجوانب الإنسانية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والخيرية والتربوية والثقافية للأوقاف، الأمر الذي أسهم في التنمية الشاملة لمؤسسات الطوائف، وما تزال هذه المؤسسات الوقفية تستثمر أوقاف الأجداد حتى اليوم. ولا بد من الإشارة بأن الكتاب أكد من خلال وثائقه بأن مؤسسات تربوية ورعائية مثل جمعية المقاصد الخيرية الإسلامية في بيروت، والجامعة الأميركية في بيروت، والجامعة اليسوعية، والمؤسسات التربوية الإنجليزية والفرنسية والوطنية اللبنانية وسواها، إنما مدينة بنشأتها وتطورها وتنميتها للأوقاف الإسلامية والمسيحية على السواء التي أوقفت منذ العهد العثماني. كتاب د.حسان حلاق كتاب يستحق القراءة.
