حسان علي حلاق (1946 - ) هو كاتب وأكاديمي لبناني وُلد ببيروت عام 1946 بمنطقة الطريق الجديدة، حصل على دبلوم عال في الدراسات الإسلامية ثم ماجستير في التاريخ عام 1977، وبعدها حصل على الدكتوراه من جامعة الإسكندرية عام 1981، ألّف حلاق عدة مؤلفات وقد ترجم عديد منها إلى الألمانية والإنجليزية. وهو عضو في اتحاد الكتاب اللبنانيين. وحائز على جائزة جامعة الإسكندرية التقديرية عام 2007. متزوج وله ولدان وثلاث بنات.

كتاب جديد لمؤرخ بيروت المحروسة الدكتور حسان حلاق بعنوان "العلاقات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والدعاوى والتوكيلات الشرعية والقانونية للمسلمين والمسيحيين وللرعايا العثمانيين الأجانب في العهد العثماني" معتمداً على مصادر أساسية يأتي في مقدمتها وثائق ومستندات تنشر للمرة الأولى من وثائق سجلات المحكمة الشرعية في بيروت. وقد استطاع المؤلف أن يقدم معلومات جديدة مناقضة للمعلومات التقليدية التي كانت سائدة من قبل، وقد أثبت بالوقائق عمق العيش المشترك بين المسلمين والمسيحيين والرعايا العثمانيين. كما قدم الباحث معلومات ووثائق جديدة من خلال دراسة الموضوعات التالية: أثر موقع بيروت في تطور العلاقات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية بين البيارتة، أثر سور بيروت وأبوابها في العلاقات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية في بيروت، الأبواب السبعة والعائلات السبع: الرؤية الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والعائلية، دور قلعة وأبراج وميناء بيروت المحروسة في تنمية العلاقات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية، دور وسائل الاتصالات والحركة التجارية في تطور العلاقات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية، الملامح الاقتصادية والاجتماعية في بيروت في القرن التاسع عشر، العلاقات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية بين المسلمين والمسيحيين والرعايا العثمانيين والأجانب في بيروت والولايات العثمانية في القرن التاسع عشر. كما تضمن الكتاب نماذج من الوثائق التي تنشر للمرة الأولى، وخرائط وجداول وخاتمة.
