ثلاثية استمدت عنوانها من ذكريات حديثة عن الجمعيات السرية كالجزويت والكاربونارية والماسونية خاصة. هكذا تخيل الروائي جمعية الثلاثة عشر من مجموعة من شباب المجتمع والمغامرين أقسموا على الولاء والتعاضد, إنما في صراعات عاطفية محمومة ضمن مجتمع باريسي عاصف يحوي الحب الأفلاطوني والحب السوي والحب الشاذ. الرواية الأولى: فراغوس زعيم المفترسين, قصة شاب طائش يغرم عن بعد بإمرأة جميلة مخلصة لحب زوجي متبادل, وتكتم حباً سرياً ملؤه الإنسانية لوالدها السجين السابق المحكوم بالأشغال الشاقة, ويحاول الشاب المتهور أن يتقصى سرها فيتعرض عدة مرات للقتل وينتهي الأمر بتصفيته وبموت المرأة المخلصة لحبها الزوجي.
الرواية الثانية: الدوقة المخلصة لغرام أول تزدري جنرالاً مغامراً فيضطر إلى اختطافها انتقاماً لعاطفته المهانة مصمماً على تشويه جمالها أو قتلها ثم يعفو عنها فتتعلق به وتسمو كبرياؤه عن قبول حب فرضته القوة وتلجأ الدوقة إلى الدير فيحاول خطفها منه لينتزعها من جدرانه الحصينة جثة هامدة.
الرواية الثالثة: الفتاة ذات العينين الذهبيتين فاتنة لعوب تستجيب لحب شاب وسيم مغامر لكنه يكتشف أنها في مشاطرته الغرام ترى فيه المرأة الأخرى التي ترتبط معها بعلاقة شاذة وتنتهي المغامرة بقتل السحاقية لحبيبتها ذات العينين الذهبيتين التي هنت إلى حب سوي. بفشل زعماء الثلاثة عشر في مغامراتهم العاطفية ينطلقون إلى محاولة اكتساب السلطة.
