مذكرات شخصية لطبيبة عراقية عاصرت أهم الأحداث المهمة في العراق خلال القرن العشرين، وهي تكشف عن جوانب هامة في حياة البغداديين والعراقيين بصورة عامة، كما تتناول أهم الشخصيات التي عاصرتهم والذي كان لهم دور كبير في تاريخ العراق الحديث. ولعل هذه المذكرات تكشف من جانب آخر عن وضع المرأة العراقية إبان تلك الفترة إذ يتضح حجم مساهمتها ومشاركتها في الحياة الاجتماعية.
ولا تغفل المؤلفة ذكر بعض ملامح الحياة الاجتماعية في البلدان التي زارتها للعمل أو للدراسة، كما تعرج على ذكر أهم الأحداث السياسية التي جرت في هذه البلدان كالانقلابات والثورات.
والمؤلفة حيث تتحدث عن تفاصيل مهمة في حياتها وحياة العراقيين، فإنها ترفق الكثير من الصور والرسوم الشخصية لها وللكثيرين من الساسة والعسكريين العراقيين والعرب الذين عاصرتهم أو تعرفت إليهم.
ومؤلفة هذا الكتاب الدكتورة "سانحة أمين زكي عريقة" مولودة في بغداد سنة 1920، وتنتمي إلى أصول عراقية عريقة ومتعددة من الأكراد والعرب والتركمان، وهي من بين الفتيات القليلات اللواتي دخلن إلى كلية الطب عام 1936. حيث تخرجت بعد ذلك في سنة 1943 وشاركت في وفود بلدها إلى عدة بلدان، قبل أن تلتحق بكلية الطب للتدريس في فرع العلاج الطبي والتداوي.
