حاولت جهدي أن التزم باختيار ما كتبته عن مكوناتي وذكرياتي العراقية، لتكون مادة هذه الكتيب الذي أقدمه للقارئ دليلاً على اني أتعدى واجب الوفاء لهذه المكونات والذكريات، إلى ما يكاد أن يكون إشهاراً لمواطنتي العراقية التي لا تقل عن مواطنتي اللبنانية عمقاً ووهجاً.
وكلما شاهدت صورة قاتمة من العراق أو صورة مشرقة، يحتدم الجدل في أعماقي وأعضائي. فأقوم إلى قلمي وأكتب واكتشف اني لن أشبع من الكتابة عن العراق حتى يشبع العراق ظلماً وجوراً.. وحرية.
ولسوف أبقى أكتب عن العراق حتى يعود العراق إلى العراق.. إن لم يعد إلينا عراقنا، إن لم يعد العراق إلى العراق، بالحرية، فسوف نضع بالكتابة عراقنا، ثم نجعل أوراقنا للتاريخ، لرياح الخماسين نسير وراءها وفيها، بين حبات الرمال التي تسفيها، إلى أن نصل إلى العراق، عندما تحتدم رياح الخماسين وتسخن، ويختلط الرمل بالحصى المتطاير والفراش الأبيض، سوف نحط رحالنا ونفرش أوراقنا ونقيم خيمنا، أعمدتها أقلامنا واصابعنا التي تحترق، وحبالها أنياط قلوبنا وقماشها عباءاتنا التي لا نريدها ولأنهنأ بها وفيها إلا إذا أطلت من العراق.
