"السيميولوجيا" أو علم العلامة Semiologi، من العلوم التي تطورت بوتيرة سريعة طوال القرن العشرين، منذ ظهور كتاب "ف دوسوسور" محاضرات في علم اللغة العام إلى آخر أبحاث "رولان بارث" و "ك متيز" وهو العلم عرفه دوسوسور بدراسة حياة العلامة في كنف المجتمع. وترجمة هذا الكتاب تأتي لتسجيل المخاض النظري الذي تعيشه السيميولوجيا، خلال هذا القرن على يد باحثين أثروا بدرجة كبيرة البناء النظري السيميولوجي الحديث، ويسجل هذا الكتاب إضافة إلى ذلك المراحل الهامة التي قطعتها السيميولوجيا عبر تاريخها الممتد من الفلسفة اليونانية إلى الأبحاث السيميوطيقية الحديثة مع تحددي العلوم الأساسية التي ساهمت في تطوير البحث السيميولوجي، خاصة الصوتيات، الدلالة، المورفولوجيا...
هذا الكتاب يهدف إلى توضيح فكرة "علم العلامات" أو السيميولوجيا بأحسن تحليل بداغوجي ممكن، أي الأكثر جلاء بالنسبة للقارئ الذي لا يعرف المفاهيم المبلورة في الخطاب السيميولوجي، أما بالنسبة للعارف بالميدان يمكن أن يكون كما نتمنى ذلك إعادة نظر فيما قيل أو فيما يظن أنه قد قيل في هذا الخطاب. فالأولوية إذن أن هذا الكتاب يتوجه إلى الطلبة المتطلعين الذين يريدون التكوين دون أن يصبحوا سيميولوجيين، وفهم تطورات ومفاهيم وتطبيقات السيميولوجيا. أخيراً نعلن للقراء أن هذا الكتاب بالنسبة لنا كسيميولوجيين-كما تسمينا الجامعة-أحسن طريقة لتقديم فهمنا الخاص-لما لقن لنا، وكذا توضيح درجة التحصيل التي تمكننا من تلقين الآخرين-أي الذين لا يدركون هذا الخطاب، فإن هدفنا إذن هو البحث والمعرفة وإعادة طرح الإشكاليات.
