ارتأيت أن يكون عنوان الكتاب على النسق الذي يحبه مؤرخنا الكبير في عناوين الكتب، ذات مرة أعطيته بحثاً في الأنساب عن سادة آل جماز في الأحساء والبصرة، فطلبت منه تسميته، أو وضع عنوان له، فرد عليّ بالموافقة.
وبعد أسبوع ذهبت إلى مجلسه المبارك، وبإبتسامته المعهودة التي لا تفارق محياه اقترح عدة عناوين للكتاب، فاخترت واحداً منها وهو: "البسط والإيجاز في تحقيق نسب السادة آل جّماز: في الأحساء والبصرة"، فجاء على ذهني أن يكون عنوان هذا الكتاب على النمط نفسه: "مداد العارفين بشيخ المؤرخين".
