في هذا الكتاب يرسم السيد "هاشم الموسوي" صورة موجزة أبرز معالم مدرسة أهل البيت من خلال العودة إلى تاريخهم وعلمهم وفكرهم، وقبل كل شيء تم تعريفهم بالإستناد إلى الآية القرآنية الكريمة "إنما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهراً". حيث أوضح الرسول (صلى الله عليه وسلم) معنى هذه الآية وحدد مصاديقها في موارد ومواقع كثيرة في أحاديثه...
يقول المؤلف: مصطلح (أهل البيت) مصطلحاً شرعياً ورد على لسان الكتاب والسنة النبوية. وحين نستمل مصطلح (مدرسة أهل البيت) إنما نقصد به تلك المدرسة العلمية الشامخة التي أخذت معارفها وعلومها وفهمها ووعيها للإسلام (الكتاب والسَنة المطهَرة) عن أئمة أهل البيت عليهم السلام علي وبنيه: الحسن والحسين وعلي بن الحسين ومحمد الباقر (...) الذين تلقوا علومهم ومعارفهم ابناً عن أب عن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم) أو هي مجموع ما أفاضه أهل البيت من علوم ومعارف مبيَنة لمحتوى الكتاب والسنة".
وفي الكتاب يوضح المؤلف كيف تميزت مدرسة أهل البيت في فكرها العقيدي مقابل المذاهب والمدارس العقيدية الأخرى، كمدرسة المعتزلة، والأشاعرة، والباطنية والصوفية وغيرها، أيضاً يوضح المؤلف كيف تميزت مدرسة أهل البيت في الفقه والاتجاه السياسي والفتوى والاجتهاد غلى آخر ذلك من إيضاحات مبينة للعقيدة والشريعة ونظام الحياة.
